Löfgren was born in Falkenberg, went to sea and ended up in Australia. Every day, at 12 noon, the bells on the south-facing facade chime out the song Himlajord.

Salami and Zulamith, Stig Blomberg, 1965

56.903974011630716, 12.492195425192802

A thousand years they labored with unfaltering faith and might,

And thus the Milky Way; was built a shining bridge of light,

Which spans the highest vault of heaven, the zodiac bridges o’er,

Across the boundless sea of space, connecting shore to shore.

So reads the Finnish-Swedish poet Zacharias Topelius poem The Milky Way from 1852 (translated by C.W. Foss in Masterpieces from Swedish literature in English form. Rock Island, Ill.: Augustana Book Concern.) In the sculpture in the middle of the fountain, the two are joined together again.

Mamma (Mum), Annika Bryngelsson, 2022

56.907185201724815, 12.494480162866017

This work of art is a celebration of the single mother and created in a combination of print and painting on cement based tiles, placed visibly on the facade of the block of flats called Repslagaren in Holgersgatan in the centre of Falkenberg. This is how the artist herself describes her work: “Mum, the everyday Madonna, with a kid on her hip and grocery bags in her fist. Always present in the public space – put nevertheless somewhat invisible.

On this wall I would like to celebrate all heroines. She can let go of her grocery bag and take up the space of a whole wall. A little tired, not trying to fawn. She hasn’t even had time to put her hair in a ponytail. She has just picked the kids up from daycare. But on this great wall she takes a break from the grocery bags. Now it’s her turn to take up space. She catches a breath, maybe two, before she rushes home to cook the evening meal. It’s a puzzle of life that there is hardly any time to complete, an everyday jigsaw puzzle where the pieces are thrown out on top of each other.”

“Art should be something that you can touch, walk on and take pictures of. Then it is public and accessible. The thought behind that the stones should be low or on the ground is to use the position that many all too often take today, that is looking down on their phones. In that same position you can read the inscriptions on the stones, snap a photo or search for the words or expressions you don’t understand.”
