There are many beautiful areas you can go for a walk in Falkenberg, regardless of whether you prefer the forest, the Ätran river or the seaside. Here are some tips that can help you find your next favourite walking route.

This scenic promenade is just a stone’s throw away from the busy town and leads you through beautiful scenery along the Ätran river. Beautiful views The peaceful Doktorspromenaden runs along the Ätran river and is a truly beautiful walkway, where you walk under proud trees that frame the river with their sturdy crowns. The river Ätran is one of Sweden’s premier salmon fishing waters, and during the fishing season you will almost certainly encounter one or several fishermen trying out their luck in the river. A historical walk Doktorspromenaden got its name from Dr. Gustaf Adam Ehrengranath, who was Falkenberg’s town doctor in the period 1856-1877. He wanted to give the local townfolk the opportunity to go for relaxing walks, spending his own money to establish the walkway that now bears his name. On the way, you will pass a well with a pedestal of Dr. Ehrengranath. The walkway was completed in 1861 and is two kilometres long. Walk around the river Ätran Once you make it to the end, you can cross over the nearby bridge (Laxbron) and walk along Laxpromenaden on your way back to town, making it a pleasant walk of around four kilometres. Did you know that it only takes roughly half an hour to walk from downtown Falkenberg to the seaside? Walk towards Tullbron and follow the river Ätran down to Skrea Beach. The town by the sea Turn down by the ruins of the old castle, just by the eastern fortification of Tullbron, and you’ll arrive at Strandpromenaden, which connects the town to the sea. You will definitely want to bring your camera along for this trip. The area offers an amazing view of Tullbron, the rooftops of the Old Town and the stunning silo towers by the harbour. You will also pass by Falkenberg’s marina, after which you will soon arrive near the sea and the long Skrea Beach. Strandpromenaden was built around 1920 as a state relief initiative. The architect was the town’s head gardener at the time, A.F. Bergkvist.

The areas on either side of the river Ätran are quite simply stunning, as well as a great place to exercise, go for a bike ride or a walk. Rest for a while on some of the benches and feast your eyes on the flowing water of the river. About Laxpromenaden Laxpromenaden is a walking and bicycle path surrounded by the beautiful nature around the Ätran river. Doktorspromenaden on the other side of the river was established as far back as 1861, and when Laxpromenaden was completed in 1971, it became possible to talk a walk along both sides of the river. You can choose to cross the river at Laxbron or the bridge by Hertingforsen. If you walk back to town along Doktorspromenaden, you’re in for a scenic four-kilometre walk. On this nature trail, you cross over marshes dotted with berry bushes and through forests with crooked pine trees. On the way, you’ll pass by the Fegen Chapel, where you have a breathtaking view of the lake. Walk along Fegensjön There is a lovely trail with clear directions along the lake’s western beach. Traverse the footbridges and bridges as you explore the lovely area from Solvik by the Fegen hostel to the swimming spot in Linjevik. Along the trail, there are boards with information about Fegen and what you can see and do during your walk. You can read about the lake’s unique fish, how it got its name, the so-called ‘skomakarbär’ (a local variety of blueberries) and much more. A round trip to Linjevik and back The nature trail is 2 km long and takes you to the swim spot in Linjevik, where there is a barbecue area, tables and benches, a bathing jetty and swings, so be sure to rest up here for a bit before heading back the same way you came.
