The salmon in the Ätran river are thriving today thanks to conservation efforts, and it is now the strongest population of Atlantic wild salmon in Sweden. So come and take up the challenge in the gushing waters of Ätran! It is only a short walk from the centre of the town to your next fishing experience. There is plenty of signage around the area, and you can easily buy a fishing licence via your mobile phone. The fishing area extends from the upper boundary in Hertingforsen to the lower boundary in Hålan and is divided into three stretches:    Hertingforsen - New fly-fishing stretch in the old restored riverway past the power station. Laxbron - approx. 100 metres downstream of Tullbron. A classic fly and spin-fishing area divided into eight pools. Hålan – a popular area for trout fishing, but also for fishing with children for flounder or chub. The fishing season for salmon and sea trout runs from 1 April to 30 September, and fishing is permitted between the hours 5:00 - 23:00. The fishing cottage is usually open during those hours. Fishing caretakers are available from 7:30 - 9:30 as well as 17:00 - 19:00.

Fishing on the stretch between the bridge in Vessigebro and 200 metres downstream of that is only permitted from 1 April to 30 September. Fishing hours: 5:00 to 23:00. Fishing is permitted in the area from the bridge in Vessigebro to the bridge of the old E6 motorway over Ätran in Falkenberg, approximately 150 metres upstream of the Herting power station in Falkenberg. What rules apply? Spin fishing, fly fishing and angling are allowed. The ‘One rod per person’ principle applies. A fishing licence only entitles you to catch a maximum of two salmon or trout per day. It is essentially completely free of agricultural runoffs. Thanks to an extensive fish and water conservation effort, local authorities have succeeded in keeping salmon stocks self-replenishing. When you include its headwaters, the Ätran river is approximately 243 kilometres long. The Ätran runs from a bog in Gullered 332 metres above sea level through southeastern Västergötland and flows out into the Kattegat strait at Falkenberg. Fegensjön provides a challenging fishing trip for anglers. The lake consists of several narrow bays, shallow creeks and great depths. The peak seasons are in the spring and autumn, especially for pike, but you can go fishing all year round here. There are a number of islands and headlands in Fegensjön that are off-limits to humans, as certain birds nest there, including the osprey and black-throated diver. The ban is in effect from 1 April to 31 July, and there are signs to indicate the off-limit areas on land and water. You are not allowed to venture closer than 100 metres to the shore in these areas. The maximum speed for boats during this period is 5 knots What rules apply? Trawling and spinning are the most common methods. Along the beaches, meta and fly fishing is fine too. A fishing licence allows you to fish with hand tools, a maximum of two rods and no more than 5 pieces of fishing tackle. To protect fish stocks, you may only catch a maximum of 3 pikes between 40 - 75 cm in length.
